This situation can bring damage to the internal components of your phone like touch screen, battery, power IC and so on.
We always use water in our day to day activities from washing to using toilet or getting wet by rain, all these can result damage to your phone if contacted with water. Dropping your phone inside water is not the end of your device because in some cases it requires some little fixes to recover it. There is higher probability of restoring back your phone to normal if you take care of all dos and don’ts.
Taking your device to phone repair expert is not the first option to do instead consider taking some small steps here to avoid further damage. The best practice when you have yourself in such situation is to try some help fixes we are going to provide below.
Switch off the phone
The first thing to do when you found your phone inside water is to quickly remove the phone from the water and switch it off even if it is ON, because doing so can stop the internal component from corrosion or getting damage by electric contact.
Removing components
All the removable components should be removed to prevent further damage like battery, phone cover, memory card and sim card. Taking battery out of the device is the most important thing to do right after switching off the phone because this will dismiss all the current flowing to the device and also this can prevent the battery from getting damaged as well. There are some phones that their batteries is inside the device which means it cannot be removed without opening the phone like iPhones and modern smartphones, in this case you can leave the battery inside.
Wiping the remaining moisture
Get a tissue or a towel and gently clean the remaining moisture outside the phone, clean all the phone slots like charging point, earphone port, sim slot and memory card slot because leaving any of these with little moisture can bring additional damages. Also consider wiping the battery pins if contacted with moisture to avoid pins corrosion.
Place your phone outdoor
After applying all the above fixes the next is to place your phone in outdoor to get dry, placing your phone facing sunlight when sunrise can speed up the dry process because the sunlight will heat up the internal component which will burn the remaining moisture inside after leaving for at least one hour. If your weather is rainy then try using air tight container.
What of placing inside rice bowl?
Placing your phone inside uncooked rice bowl is the most commonly used method if such situation arises. But using this technique is not effective most of the time, because when the moisture is too much inside the phone then this will cause the internal components to get corrode very fast before the rice absorb the moisture since this method takes up to two days for an effective result. This method only works if the water damage is small; instead try using tight air container because it is more effective than using rice.
Take your phone to repair center
Taking your phone to repair center is the last option because trying all the above fixes can recover your phone to normal if the damage is not severe but if you found it hardly to restore the phone don’t think of giving up because you tried all the primary fixes that could prevent further damage to the phone, and this will make things easier to recover the phone when taken to the expert.
Preventive measures
Try as much as possible to keep your phone aside when going to bath room, washing room or doing anything that has to do with water. Getting waterproof phone cover is also important because this can serve as a protection before anything like this happen.
