PUK (Personal unblocking key) is a unique eight digit number that is binded to every sim card.
PUK serve as a master key or code that is use to reset a sim PIN.
People use to set a PIN on their sim card and later they find it difficult to remember, this is when the problem arises because some will try to guess those PINs and if it is wrongly inputed up to three times then this will lead to blocking up the sim.
When your sim card is blocked this will stop all your sim operations and restrict you to make a calls, texts and surft the net, which is something to make you feel worry. This is when to use your sim PUK and reset the PIN.
You can find your sim PUK by checking the back side of your sim package which is normally 8 digit codes, you can enter those codes to your phone and simply unblock any PIN you forgot to remember.
But there is a time when you want to use your sim PUK but you have no access to the sim package and you haven't write it somewhere else before, this will fraustrate you and you may try to guess those PUK codes, which is something very dangerous because when you put it wrong up to 10 times then your sim card will be blocked forever. If you found yourself in such situation don't try to input any guess codes because this will lead you to regret later, instead of this consider a solution we brought to you below.
This post will show you how to retrieve your Mtn and Airtel sim PUK codes even if you lost your sim pack.
In order to get your PUK make sure you are the one that registered the line, because to get your PUK codes you must undergo some verifications.
To retrieve your Mtn PUK codes, and reset your PIN, then follow these steps.
1. Insert the blocked sim in your phone.
2. Borrow your friend's phone and enter dialer then dial *123*7#. You will be prompted to select one out of three options which are store locator, sim swap and get your PUK number, then reply with option 3 which is get your PUK number and wait for the network response.
3. It will show you "get your PUK to reactive your sim. Enter the phone number that requires the PUK" and here you are to write the phone number that has been blocked in this format (080********) and click send.
4. In this step you are to answer some security questions in order to verify that you are the real owner of the sim. You will got two options which are continue and cancel, reply with 1 and wait.
5. The first security question is to enter your mother maiden name then click send.
6. The second security question is to enter your date of birth (the one used to register the sim) in this format DD/MM/YYYY.
7. The last security question is to enter the number you frequently call, this could be your mother's number, or your friend's number.
After answering all the question correctly you will receive an SMS shortly with your PUK codes which you can now use it to unblock your sim.
Now you have access to your PUK, which you can directly reset your blocked sim PIN.
This is all for mtn users.
For Airtel users your method is much easier compared to the Mtn. Follow these steps to retrieve your PUK codes.
Enter your dialer, if you are abroad dial 0802150111 if not then dial 111 which is their customer care numbers. After they pick your call, complain to them about you lost your sim pack and now you want your PUK codes and you no longer have access to them, you will be asked to answer some security questions, if you answer them correctly then you will receive an SMS with your PUK codes.
Whenever you set a PIN to your sim card it is good practice to write it down or keep it in a safe place so as to avoid being blocked by the network when you forgot them and input them wrong up to three times.
Keep in mind that PUK is very important, advisibly you should write it down in a piece of paper and keep it in a safe place for further use.
